Construction sites

A site office was established at Yantai Raffles Shipyard in March 2006. 

The COSL Site Team counts 70 people consisting of a good mix of local Chinese people and expatriates. The Team covers all the main disciplines needed for engineering, construction and commissioning, as well as some positions allocated for the operation of the rigs when they are delivered. 

The site team has modern office facilities with space also for client representatives, service personnel and visitors. 

The yard has outsourced the deck boxes for COSLInnovator and COSLPromoter, as well as the lower hull for COSLPromoter. The outsourced scope is handled partly by Dopco in Dalian and partly by Jutal in Penglai. COSL has established site teams at both sites, with 15 people in Dalian and 4 in Penglai.

The construction activity is ongoing for all 3 rigs, and equipment is steadily being received. National Oilwell Varco (NOV) has established on site and the 2 first Drilling Equipment Sets (DES) and Mud Mixing modules have arrived at site. The DES and the Mud Mixing Module for COSLPromoter will arrive at site in April 2009. 

The assembly of the first rig, the COSLPioneer, is well advanced after load out of the major parts, lifting onboard of the DES and Mud Module, and finally by the mating operation of the Deck box and the lower hull in November 2008. The lifting operations were carried out very smoothly and in record time by the new 20.000 tons crane. The COSLPioneer hook-up activities are now going on, and commissioning of the rig systems has started.

Yantai is a fast developing city in the east of Shandong Province. It has a population of approximately six million people, including the city and surrounding areas. The city has good connections with both domestic and international flights and train services are connecting Yantai to all major cities. The expatriate community in the city is still relatively small but growing. For leisure trips or big city experiences, the travel to Beijing, Shanghai or Qingdao is easily arranged.
